A year ago this weekend, I helped Melissa Gregerson out with a wedding reception at Waco Beach on Lake Michigan for a fantastic couple who had gotten married in Las Vegas. Erin and Frank and their whole family met together on a chilly fall day to celebrate with dinner and dancing, and it was a pleasure getting to know them and to work with such a wonderful professional like Melissa. It was an exciting change of pace to show up to a wedding reception feeling refreshed and energized – normally after a full day of shooting the getting ready photos, the ceremony, the family formals, and the bridal portraits, we photographers arrive at the reception minus makeup, plus frizz, half-starved and ready for some serious caffeine. I had no need to catch my usual wedding reception second-wind on this day! Having a party in your home town after a destination wedding or eloping is a fantastic way to celebrate with family and friends – and the perfect opportunity to get the wedding photos you have dreamed about.
